SOMAA NORTH EAST CHAPTER (NEC) NOTES

Our 2nd Quarterly meeting of the North East Chapter (NEC) of the SGU alumni association was held at P.J. Clarkes in NYC on Saturday September 27, 2014 from 7pm-10pm.  Approximately 30 alumni, residents and students attended, with graduates from recent as well as classes as far back as 1982!  The atmosphere was electric due to momentum of an organized alumni meeting and one which facilitated the mingling of both old and new students in a casual and convenient forum.

Minutes:
Dr. Glenn Brady ('98) and Dr. Robert S. Helman ('97) on behalf of Dr. Martin Stransky ('83) discussed:
  • The purpose and the general mission of the Alumni Association and specifically the NEC
  • The formation of the NEC and other chapters like it across the world developed by other interested Alumni
  • Upcoming elections for the School of Medicine Alumni Association – full details are at the Alumni Online Community website (www.sgualumnicommunity.com)
  • Getting alumni interested in participating in mentoring students and student shadowing.  The Alumni Relations office and Martin Stransky are in the process of setting up these great programs. Again, please visit the Alumni Online Community website (www.sgualumnicommunity.com) for more details
  • We will chart further events and the direction of the NEC at the next meeting

In the end, it was agreed that we had a great start for the NEC.  All who attended knew a few alumni who would be interested in attending the next meeting.

THE NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR  December 11th, 2014 in Manhattan from 7:00pm. Details of the venue will be sent out via the Alumni Relations Office.  Keep checking your email for updates!

PLEASE CONTACT DR. ROBERT HELMAN (emergencydr@gmail.com) for any NEC issues and please don´t forget to register as an Alumnus at the Alumni Online Community website (www.sgualumnicommunity.com), so we can stay in touch!

Thank you for all who attended and we look forward to future successful meetings.
